The exorcism

“Rector… This place seems abandoned…”

The call for an exorcism came in several days ago. This wasn’t the first ritual for the faithful clerk. He helped his supervisor from the parish, his Rector, with every exorcism he had performed. Mostly a showing to propagate the teachings of the church. Exorcism. Propaganda. Whatever you’d call it, the families paid hefty sums and were very grateful for this very elaborate “ritual”. The paralysing sedative was an amazing concoction created by the parish’s alchemists. The patient would sleep for 3 days, and the occurring amnesia would “exorcise” any “spirits” clinging to its mind.

The Rector looked around.

“Anyone here?”

No response. But the mist unveiled a silhouette in the distance. Suddenly, cracks and creaks among the cottages revealed many more silhouettes. The purple glow from their eyes was the last thing the Clerk ever saw.
